Sleeping on Air
Posted on November 23rd, 2009
When we visit my sister I sleep on an air mattress on the floor of her office. So I’ve made this silly mistake for the past three nights.
When we got here I aired up the mattress too hard. By the time I went to bed it was too late to adjust the air because everyone was asleep.
So I slept on a mattress that was too hard for me. Woke up at one point in the middle of the night and my right hand was so asleep that I thought it was broken
But I didn’t adjust the mattress in the morning because by the time I remembered everyone was back in bed and asleep again – midnight.
So I’ve been doing this for the past three nights – UGH! When everyone is up this am I AM going to adjust this bed or I’ll be so sleep deprived by the time we leave I won’t be able to drive at all!
Tomorrow is the big day for our college visit. I got the last email from the college counselor who told me I’m entering the admission building across from Starbucks. Thinking a tall cup of hot chocolate is in order!
Thankfully the timing also changed so we don’t have to leave the house at 6am any longer. The college is a 3 hour drive from my sister’s so now we can leave at 8:30 instead.
Sleep is important

Road Trip Soon
Posted on November 22nd, 2009
Seems like we just got here – oh wait – we did just get here! But in just another 2 days my oldest and I will be heading out the door again for a 2.5 hour car trip to visit another of her college choices.
This girl is one smart cookie – did wonderfully on her ACT and SAT exams. She has colleges writing and calling all the time. She’s a good test taker and has a good head on her shoulders – nice combination that I’ll miss in just a few short months.
She was filling out one of her applications and one question was about her sleeping habits. She put down that she goes to bed early, which she does, and gets up late, which she does. When she read that she burst out laughing!
I’m not all over these college choices since her top two are out of state and at least a 6 hour drive for me but I raised her to make good solid choices and she has. Both are Christian colleges that have strong programs in her majors. Both schools have solid backgrounds and she is happy. Can’t ask for much more.
The ex dropped a mini bomb on me on the car ride to my sister’s on Friday. He enjoys doing these things. He has written a personal letter to me and has it in my mailbox at home. He wanted to be sure that I knew about it so I would open it.
Right, like you wouldn’t open a letter addressed to you that is marked “Personal”! He wanted to be sure that I knew about it so he didn’t have to fret about it any longer. It’s probably some brain dump letter that you’re supposed to write but never mail.
UGH – he says it’s part of his process. I’d like to give him another process – one that doesn’t involve ME.
My friend has been asking me to join Plenty of Fish.com because she says there are more choices on that site. Unfortunately, after doing a small search I’m even more depressed about the options and opportunities out there than ever before. The site I am on hasn’t matched me with more than 1 guy a week – probably because of my standards – that I don’t think are all that high – Christian, non-smoker, drinks only socially. How hard can that be?
Another issue I’m struggling with is premarital sex. I understand from friends that my standards of no sex until marriage maybe so far out of the ball park that the stadium will be empty by the time I get there.
OK- baseball isn’t my thing and the metaphor probably doesn’t even make sense – but I tried!
I’d like a little cheese with this whine please . . .

We Have Arrived!
Posted on November 20th, 2009
After 6 hours of driving – and four done by my oldest son! – we have arrived at my sister’s home. What a woman she is.
We walk in the house, dump all of our suitcases and she started making fried chicken. She set up a production line where the littlest girl and boy helped her bread the chicken while she did the frying.
Right in the middle of all of this the little girls says, “This is SO MUCH FUN!”
The house is gorgeous – decorated for Christmas in every room. The tree looks like it belongs in a department store and the walls are all adorned with Santa and Angels.
She is the organizational queen – I am tired just watching her.
My oldest son did his first long trip behind the wheel and did a fine job. I am ecstatic that he will be able to help out with the driving in the coming months. But, he is 18 and one more year he’ll be in college. Then it’s back to the driving for me!
Had an interesting conversation with the ex the other day. He still wants to start dating – thought he was over that since he has a girlfriend. I’m guessing I was wrong. . . We talked for about 20 minutes – I hope he gets it now.
